Above all it is a film that proposes to (re)discover sport through stories, experiences and adventures, all exciting and passionate, beyond the physical dimension it represents. The films we want to represent tell human and/or social stories through the athletes and their environment; a new angle for a sports film showcase.
What makes PULSE! different from existing sports film festivals?
There are sports film festivals that focus on a single discipline or a particular type of discipline (extreme sports, mountain sports, water sports). The particularity of PULSE! is that it celebrates all types of sports and explores them in many imaginable variations.
What is the point of a socio-cultural event based on sports films?
First of all, it is rare to combine culture and sport in a single event: allowing such dialogue is innovative and opens up countless opportunities for exchange. Secondly, the fact of organising this showcase allows the public to see and understand sport in a different way. Finally, PULSE! will highlight works that are rarely or never viewed internationally.
Are there enough sports films to make it an international event?
Yes! We're surrounded by sports movies without even realizing it. The book "Sport & Cinéma" by Julien and Gérard Camy, for example, lists more than 1200 films related to some 60 sports! Unlike cinemas, where sports film is a genre that travels little, it is closely followed in film festivals. Indeed, many works are generally only broadcast at the national level, in countries whose distributors submit them only to festivals or for their televisions. By honouring them in a specially dedicated event such as our Showcase, PULSE! will take the "next step" that will allow the public to discover all the richness and international diversity of this genre.
Who will choose the films to be screened?
PULSE! benefits from the expertise and support of film programmers or sports enthusiasts to propose the most interesting or relevant works. PULSE! also stays up to date on film releases thanks to national and international distributors.
Why launch such an event in the Lake Geneva region?
This beautiful, welcoming and easily accessible region has the most headquarters of international sports organizations and federations in the world. Its cultural richness is also well established. PULSE!, with its sports films, wants to contribute to this influence with an original and meaningful event in the Lake Geneva region.
